People

Empowering our people to be happy, healthy, and successful

Diversity and inclusion are powerful. At HBD, we’ve established a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and skills.

Our people are the driving force behind our success, so we invest in our colleagues’ growth and wellbeing with several initiatives, including access to training and our mental health first aiders.

Planet

Building a low carbon, sustainable future

Climate change is the defining challenge of our times and is fundamentally changing the way we create our HBD places. We understand that protecting our planet is an obligation and an opportunity for innovation. So, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability in every part of our business. Our team regularly demonstrates creativity, resilience, and determination – skills that are helping us to tackle climate change head on.

Reductions in directly controlled carbon in the past two years:
  • 27% Reduction in electricity
  • 30% Reduction in gas
  • 56% Reduction in business mileage
Reducing our carbon footprint

We promise to minimise our carbon footprint, use resources efficiently, and incorporate greener technologies in all our projects. We will achieve Net zero carbon by reducing the emissions that we can directly control by more than 20% by 2025 and 60% by 2030*.

Reducing our carbon footprint

We’re also making it easy for our colleagues to work sustainably. That means reducing water use, waste sent to landfill and our reliance on plastic in our offices – and limiting non sustainable business travel.

Reducing our carbon footprint

And we’re working with like minded partners across our projects – pioneering new ideas and improving biodiversity net gain. There’s plenty more to be done and we’re committed to a more sustainable present and future.

Places

We’re here to make an impact

Social value? That’s a fancy way of saying we design and build successful projects that contribute positively to the wider local economy and improve the social fabric of a place. In short, we’re dedicated to enriching the communities where we do our work – creating places that people are proud to call home.

We support our charity, community, and education partners in any way we can; volunteering and fundraising, providing work experience, and building long lasting, strategic relationships.
