Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter has a unique identity and presence, and that character is reflected in HBD’s ambitious and transformative plans for Setl.
What was once the site of a 1960s office block is now being reborn, with HBD pioneering the creation of a 102 apartment building that will establish a new way of living in the city.
Located in the sought after St Paul’s area of the Jewellery Quarter, Setl is designed with the resident’s living experience in mind. Brilliantly designed homes ranging one and two bedrooms are enhanced by a roof garden, a wellness studio (with docking for workouts on streaming platforms), hotel style lobby and circulation areas and a co working lounge.
Setl will be central to an already well established community, bolstered by 2,500sq ft of commercial space on Ludgate Hill that will provide a perfect complement to the development, attracting independent restaurants, leisure operators or other businesses to deliver essential amenities. While New Street and Snow Hill stations, Grand Central and workspaces on Colmore Row and Paradise are all just a short walk away.
Creating such a space has come through great design collaboration and, testament to its commitment to working with the very best professionals in the business, HBD enlisted BPN architects to develop Setl’s designs. The practice is renowned for its work in the Jewellery Quarter, with HBD commissioning the team to help realise the vision, alongside GMI Construction as lead contractor.
Working with HBD, this stellar team would create the highest quality residential scheme for this premium and much sought after residential location. With historic buildings and a Georgian Square nearby, it was important to ensure that the redevelopment was in keeping with its setting and the use of glazed terracotta and sawtooth brickworth as principal elevation material is sympathetic to the traditional materials in the area.
Balancing design with functionality HBD is working with highly respected landscape gardeners and interior designers to create unmatched living environments and establishing a real sense of community.
Setl is the perfect place to experience Birmingham’s past while living in its future.
