HBD’s Airport Business Park to expand further with space for SMEs

HBD, part of Henry Boot, has submitted a planning application for a further 70,911sq ft at Airport Business Park Southend as it creates sustainable space for SMEs.

The developer is seeking planning consent for a new development of nine industrial and logistics units ranging from 4,459sq ft to 9,872sq ft, plus a single detached unit of 16,451sq ft. Each of the ten units will be sustainable, targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating.

Airport Business Park Southend (ABPS) is a partnership between HBD and Southend City Council. It has quickly become one of the region’s most successful business destinations, with occupiers including IPECO, Cama AssetStore, the Event Co and a range of local SMEs.

The proposals follow the success of The Quad, a 12-unit scheme within the 25-ha development which is fully occupied. This additional 70,851sq ft will help to meet demand for high-quality, sustainable space for local SMEs within an established business community.

Ed Hutchinson, Managing Director at HBD, commented: “Each of the ten units are designed specifically for SMEs, providing the right space, connectivity and infrastructure for businesses looking to scale. Coupled with the Launchpad and various other facilities available on-site, occupiers benefit from a collaborative ecosystem designed to support growth. Subject to planning permission, we hope to start work on-site next summer.”

HBD has now completed a total of 355,550sq ft at the successful Southend development. A further 290,000sq ft is still to be brought forward.
